COMING HOME
By Harold Hiken

At the end of February, it became increasingly clear that I would be returning to Camp Timberlane as the Director for the 1981 season. We had a number of campers already signed up for camp, but there were a large number of boys who had not sent in their registrations as of yet. With a lot of self doubts gnawing within me me, I retook over the reins of Timberlane, and sent out a letter explaining what had occurred. in my mind, I kept asking myself countless questions--what would parent response be to my return-- would the campers accept me-- could I still handle the job?

I guess the first inkling of the outcome came from all the staff that had worked at camp over the years, and the staff from last year-- many of them wrote or called me and asked, “H, what can I do for Timberlane?” Then parents called and wrote me, and registrations began coming with Camp Timberlane during the past couple years, and they began to sign up for camp, and soon I began to gain much of the confidence that I had possessed over my previous eighteen years at Camp Timberlane.

However, the real joy came when camp actually started-- how I had missed camp during the past two years-- I loved every minute working with the boys, and I would be totally involved in the camp program for a minimum of 14 hours each day. My newsletters must let you know how much I love being back at camp, and your overwhelming positive responses have made the job even more enjoyable. The Esprit de Corp is fantastic, and Timberlane is once again back to the level it once possesses. I’ll never let it slip away again, and thanks for all your confidence. I’ve come back home again.
