Capture the Flag Kicks Off Blue & White
By BRIAN SCHLOSSBERG

On June 24 Camp Timberlane officially kicked off it’s Blue & White competition with a game of Capture the Flag. Campers were divided into two teams of equal size. The game was held as the evening program.

Capture the Flag has always been a traditional game here at camp. Members of the White team wore white markers on their wrists so that the two teams could properly identify each other.

The first game was started with the ringing of the gong and lasted approximately five minutes. The Blue team won the game, and the flags were returned to their proper positions for the beginning of the next game. The second contest lasted a little longer than the first, but the Blue team still managed to chalk up another victory.

The bell sounded for the beginning of the third game. However the game soon had to be postponed on the account of rain. The first official contest went to the Blue with a score of 2-0.

Capture the Flag is basically a running game. The object for one team is to capture the other team's flag and return it their own home base. Runners seeking the opponent's flag must avoid being caught along the course they are running. The course extends through much of the camp from the senior village to the barbecue area. Length of the course is about 200 yards.

Usually four to six games are played during the evening program. The game itself is played frequently during each session. At the end of each session the winning team celebrates with a Coke and watermelon party.
