Two years ago Mark Pearlstein
re-introduced Track and Field as an activity at Camp Timberlane. The
facilities which he had were very limited.l All he had were the
athletic field, the camp road, and matresses for a high-jump pit.
The following year Mark persuaded Harold to purchase a fiberglass
pole and two crash pads. This new equipment enabled a new event, the
pole vault, and a better pit for the high jump. This year during
pre-camp another facility was added. A 220-yard oval track was
designed and painted by Steve Pratt and Jeff Mossler. This will
enable us to hold any type of regulation running race in addition to
introducing relays to the Camp Timberlane track and field
program.
During the first section of activities, the interest was so high that
boys signed-up for each of the two classes offered. Track and Field
is truly becoming one of the biggest activities at Camp
Timberlane.
