Many of us are aware that TIMBERLIFE was a
successful paper last year. Two issues were published during
camps eight-week session, and the latter issue was lengthened
to fourteen pages. An excellent job was done on laying out the
newspaper. Pictures were diversified, representing virtually every
aspect of the way of life at Timberlane.
However, quality alone cannot be used as the sole criteria for
judging any newspaper. Success is also determined by the number of
people involved with the publication of TIMBERLIFE. This year our
goal is not focused entirely on quality but rather on the enthusiasm
of campers as well as staff. In addition to writing news and feature
articles, campers will help in the actual layout of the paper.
Of course, the results of an all camp newspaper will depend somewhat
on the support given by those who take an interest in journalistic
writing. This session we are fortunate to have received support from
several people who did not take newspaper as an activity.
In addition to working at camp, campers will also have the
opportunity to take a few trips outside of camp.
One trip will consist of visiting a printing press in Eagle River.
Another trip will be taken to the Lakeland Times, a newspaper
publication in Minocqua. Hopefully campers will be able to realize
the work in which goes into actually printing out a paper.
Those who are not particularly interested in journalism can still
become interested. TIMBERLIFE also welcomes literary articles as well
as other types. Poetry, stories, and essays can also become a part of
this all-camp publication.
