Highlighted by a giant five run fourth inning, the Timberlane Junior
All-Star went on to defeat Camp Algonquin by a score of 16 to 6.
After falling behind by 2-0 in the second inning, the juniors forged
ahead with four runs in the bottom of the third. The big blow of the
inning was a two-run-homer by rookie Kevin Palans. (Palans later hit
a second homer and that, along with his excellent fielding, made
Kevin the star of the game)
After Algonquin tied it at four with two runs in the fourth, the
slugging Timberlaners took the lead for good with five runs in the
bottom of the frame. Key hits in the inning were a homer by Dean
Salit, a double by David Morris, and singles by Reed Sexter and Bruce
"Schucky" Lerner.
Other key hits were made by second baseman Craig Selzman and
left-fielder David Susman (Susman was starting catcher, but moved to
left when Marshall Berlin was ejected in the third).
Timberlane put the game away with three runs in the fifth inning and
four more in the sixth.
