Most of us aware that TIMBERLIFE has been
a successful paper published the last two summers. Two issues have
been printed each year (one a session). Fred Bierman was the
Editor-in-Chief the first year in 1975; Fred had been the editor of
his campus paper at Stanford University, and he brought a
professionalism to TIMBERFLIFE that was unique.
Jeff Heller took over the reigns last summer and changed the format
some. Still we had a magazine that we could be proud of, and was far
and away better than any paper than most camps can accomplish.
Jeffs TIMBERLIFE experience helped guide him into helping
publish his school yearbook at Northwestern University.
Of course, the results of an all-camp newspaper will depend somewhat
on the support given by those who take an interest in journalistic
writing. This session we are fortunate to have received support from
several people who did not take Newspaper as an activity.
In addition to working on the paper at camp, campers will also have
the opportunity to take a few trips. One will consist of visiting a
printing press in Eagle River. Another trip will be taken to the
Lakeland Times, a newspaper publication in Minocqua. Hopefully
campers will be able to see the work which goes into actually putting
out a paper.
Those who are not particularly interested in journalism can still
become interested. TIMBERLIFE also welcomes literary articles as
stories, and essays can also become a part of this all-camp
production.
