On July 30, Camp TImberlane competed
against Camp Algonquin of Rhinelander in a series of All-Star
softball games.
The Junior All-Stars took advantage of every opportunity and won
their rain-shortened game by a score of 28-0. Billy Straus won the
hitting derby by belting out a single, double and his first home run
of the season. Other key hits were made by Marshall Berlin and Ron
Safrin. Every player on the team got at least two hits and scored at
least two runs. Nathan Gould pitched a no hitter and the only
Algonquin runner to reach base was on an error.
The Intermediate All-Stars had a tough time of it and had to come
from behind to win their game by a score of 5 to 3.
The Senior All-Stars sparked by a 7-run 4th inning went on to breeze
by Algonquin by a final of 18 to 0. The scoring started in the first
as John Marks' single was followed by a run scoring double by Alan
Kline. From there on it was elementary. Pitcher John Marks recorded
his second shutout, lowering his ERA to 0.20 in 25 innings. The
games most notable moment was when Steve Lebau got his first
base hit of the year, a single.
In the second All-Star game, the Seniors again shutout Algonquin by a
score of 12 to 0. Rob Chapman made amazing fielding gems, while Chris
Adler led the hitting parade.
Overall, it was a great day for the softball teams; to put it
mildly...
