A LETTER TO TIMBERLIFE

Dear Timberlife,

This subject may seem a little out of place. I don’t think so, however, since this involves, in my opinion, simply applying on a larger scale the things we learn here about responsiblitity, accepting the problems and inconveniences as necessary to life, and group effort. We learn fast here that the best way to benefit yourself is in benefiting others-if you try to help your cabin group,
your summer is that much better. If you mostly worry about “what do I want” and forget the others in the cabin, you are guaranteed a lousy summer.

The same thing can be seen in the energy crisis. If people continue to act the way they are now (I want MY gas guzzler car, and damn everyone else; I want MY thermostat at 72 degrees and to hell with the million people-no exaggeration out of work this winter due to gas shutoffs at factories, and the kids missing school, I want MY low gas prices, even though they increase consumption), we are going to have a very long, harsh, and grueling energy crisis ahead, but if WE ALL WORK TOGETHER, we can save enough fuel to last until solutions are found.

Here at Timberlane, we get a lot done by having everybody pitch in and work. We have a great summer because WE have all helped out. We have learned this here, and we should help lead the rest of the country through this-be the first kid on the block to start walking to school, or use a bus; be the first parent to refuse to give your kids rides to places that they can walk to; be the first to tell your friends you are in favor of tough energy measures that affect you directly. WE can all help lead the rest of OUR country, the U.S. solve OUR problem TOGETHER.
REMEMBER:
U.S. IS FOR ALL OF US.

Matt Healy
