BOATING SAFETY

Many people do not realize how serious a matter boating safety can be. “Screwing around” in a boat or canoe can be very dangerous indeed. Following are a few simple rules, each relating to safety in boats or canoes of any kind.

1. Only those who have passed the swim (Shark) test may take out a boat or a canoe.

2. Generally, no one goes out alone in a canoe. Exceptions to this rule are older campers who have cleared with the staff.

3. Do not go out of sight of camp. You must be clearly visible to the camp shoreline where the boats are being checked in. Do not go around the point on either side.

4. All boats and canoes must be checked in and out by the person in charge; usually Matt Healy. Failure to do this will mean expulsion from the boats for a long period of time.

5. Each person must wear a lifebelt. There are NO exceptions.

6. Stay clear of the skiing area.

7. Except in an emergency, do not stand up in a boat. This may cause it to tip. Also, there is no swimming off boats or splashing.

8. Do not try and switch boats with someone in the middle of the lake. The only exception is if someone needs help paddling their boat back in. If this is the case, only one person may switch at a time.
