All of us at Camp Timberlane were deeply
saddened this month to learn of the passing of a former camper. Jon
Molasky had attended camp for many years, and was sincerely one of
the most liked campers here. Not only was he admired, but he was also
one of the hardest workers we had. There is no doubt in anyone's mind
that Jon Molasky would have eventually been a staff member in future
years.
When a person close to us dies, we are shocked, but when it is a
person as young and energetic as Jon was, it is hard to put our
feelings into words. Most of us who were close to Jon not only feel
sorry for him, but for ourselves as well...we cannot help but think
that he was taken away from us unfairly.
Jon would have been a P.A. this summer; and it is with this group
that his death hit hardest. Many have expressed regrets that Jon died
too soon after the discovery of his illness. Let us be grateful,
however, that Jon did not suffer a great deal, and did not have to
experience long, painful months in the hospital.
Tripping had been one of Jon Molaskys loves at camp. In memory
of him, the tripping department has decided to dedicate its
Tripper of the Year Award to him. We, by no means, believe that this
dedication is all Jon is worthy of. Harold Hiken has expressed these
same sentiments; and a more permanent honor may be bestowed in the
future.
