THE GREEN EYE...
by Jim Goldstein

John Meriwaether and Mark Gabriel were best of friends. Together, they found a copper mine in the northwoods, and worked it by themselves. The only thing that bothered John about Mark was that he had a green eye! Not just the iris and pupil part, but the entire eye was green. John mentioned it to Mark, and Mark tried to help by keeping the eye closed, but this did not work too well.

At night, the eye glowed an eerie green which lit the whole room. One night Mark tried taping the eye shut, but the tape did not stick on the eyelid. John got more and more paranoid as the weeks went on. Finally he could not take it any more, he had to do something, and do it immediately. He decided to kill Mark right then.

It was nine o’clock in the evening when John took a hunting knife and stabbed Mark to death. John then cut Mark up and put his parts under the floorboards of the cabin. He also cut the eye into little pieces. He then began to run from the cabin. He ran and ran and ran until he dropped from exhaustion. After resting, he looked back and what he saw almost put him into shock. In the distance he saw something glowing green. He got up and ran. When he thought he was safe, he layed down and went to sleep.

Around midnight he woke up; when he opened his eyes he saw the green eye hovering above him. He let out a shriek, but there was no one around to hear him. Once again he began to run. Eventually, he saw the lights of a town in the distance. When he finally got there, he couldn’t see a single person. So, he ran into a deserted bar and hid behind a counter. This time the eye was right behind John; and through a thought transmission the eye said, “I’ve come for you John Meriwaether, you are my next victim; I have had many before you, you will do as I say.” At this point John’s left eye fell out painlessly, and the green eye inserted itself in it’s place.
