The Competition
Donny, in reply to you, I remember the soccer game well. I, of
course, knew and know nothing about soccer. (A fact I am proud
of by the way...it's a Euro-trash game)..anyway I did know that
they had 17 year-olds playing rough against 13 and 14
year-olds, and I tried to get the kids and refs to stop the
rough stuff...which they didn't. When the camp director came up
to me after the game and berated me for "interrupting a
competition" and telling me I knew "nothing about competition,"
I said "Competition is more important than safety, isn't it
shithead!"...Thus ended our "competitions" with Kawaga for many
years....what an asshole that guy was!

Gets Dark Too Late!
stu speer II
the last time i saw stu speer was in new orleans, '85. i went
to mardi gras, and saw stu at the tulane/memphis state b-ball
game. i was with a friend from memphis, and we got there early
to get a good seat. tulane, back then, played in this tiny,
high school like gym. we got front row center seats. stu walks
in right before game time, sees us, and motions like, "you got
2 extra seats?" yea right. the tigers won the game, but it was
one of the games that later was said to have been thrown by
tulane. also, on that trip i saw schiller. i somehow found out
he was in town and where he was staying, so i went there (it
was very late, like 4 am), sat on him, and woke him up. his
eyes finally opened, he looked up, and then he got this big
grin on his face (along with that schiller laugh). we talked
like 2 minutes, hugged, and then i left. remember that rob?
ahhhh, '85 was a good year, at least what i remember of it!

Tulane Gym, Freret Street Gym, Fogelman Arena...
MP, ain't it a snake-pit? The facility you're describing is on
the corner of Freret Street & McAlister Drive (right in the
heart of campus). They still play there. I know you're familiar
with the Fogelman's. It was a phenomenol place to watch ball
and cheer on the Hot Rod. I'm most certain that the game you
were at was thrown (I'm glad I never entered the betting pools
w/Gary Krantz--a true asshole). My fondest sports memories at
Tulane, however, relate to living in the same suite (freshman
year) as Lionel Washington, defensive corner, who as a 3-time

Test Balloon
I am checking to get some sense of who might be interested in
buying a CD of the "KTIM Jam" session from Summer 1985. This
was a "rainy day" activity involving me, Jon Healy, Phil
Perlson, David Rudder, Jimmy Hiken, and Charlie Groves. We
recorded a number of songs (Friend of the Devil, Hey Now/Iko,
Good Lovin', a pretty good version of Sandman, and many more)
and made a tape. That tape apparently have been copied many
times over and passed on through more recent Timber alums. In
an effort to preserve the tape for my own listening enjoyment,
I had the tape digitized and I have made a few CDs. Some people
at the Reunion who thought they would like a copy, however.
This got Charlie and me thinking about how we might raise a
little additional money for Mike Cohen's Camp for Kids
organization. If there is sufficient interest, I might arrange
for a number of CDs to be produced for the purpose of selling
them to those who are interested. I would then give the profits
to the Camp for Kids. For those of you who live in Indianapolis
(Mosslers), "I don't want to make money folks, I just love to
sell CDs." (Name that sales pitch). We have a number of details
to check out before moving ahead. Before moving on to those
details, however, I wanted to see what interest their might be.
I'll keep checking the "Central Area" so that you can express
any interest (or lack thereof) there. If you might be
embarrassed about wanting a CD and don't want that desire
publicly known (not an unwarranted precaution), you can send an
email to me directly at bswillia@knox.edu. Thanks. Willy

Hello from Terre Haute. I was Marshall Berlin's C.I.T. his very
