10 Predictions for 2001
Thanks for another great year on Tushball.com. Our New Years
Predictions are as follows:
1. Both JP and Pud will get married (perhaps to each
other).
2. Bosco will release a bootleg cd of Jerry Garcia eating a
burrito (8/14/81 Taco Palace).
3. Matt Healy will develop a new insurance company dedicated to
Palm Pilot replacement.
4. John Marks will win a million-dollar judgement...AGAINST
HIMSELF!
5. Steve Lebau will attend his high school reunion, and end up
in traction.
6. Rocky Stone will renounce judiasm and become a cook at White
Castle.
7. Vince McMahon will announce the formation of a new
full-contact Tushball league.
8. Harold's toupee will open a new camp...with Randy Wynn as
assistant director.
9. Mark Faiwell will acquire the New York Yankees and....(fill
in your own joke here).
10. Dorothy Herlitz will marry Emeril Legasse and adopt
JP....after a messy custody battle with Corrine from the
Arrowhead.
Now let's hear YOUR predictions...Happy New Year from the
Gazzoos!

Random camp encounters
Here's my random camp enounter. About two years ago I was
speaking at a Camping Conference here in California. There are
about 50 camping professionals in the audience and my theme is
about motivating staff to take camp counseling seriously. At
one point I begin to tell a story about an experience I had
growing up "at a private boys summer camp in the upper
Midwest"... As I'm telling the story I look out in the audience
and there is this guy who looks so familiar and I just can't
place it. When I mention "the upper Midwest" he lights up and
says something to the woman sitting next to him. I know he
recognizes me too... Turns out it is Todd Bramen who attended
camp 1982-1984 from Munster, Indiana (also home of Joe Pabon).
We were in a cabin together in 1982 with Pud, Tony "Death
Pilot" Searle and Scott Seideman, our CIT was Craig Selzman.
Not only that but for about two years we were best friends and
Todd even came to visit me in Peoria at one point. I hadn't
seen or spoken to him in 15 years. It turns out he directs a
JCC Camp in the Bay Area and was engaged to a woman he met in
Grad School. By the way, to this day the most scared I've ever
been in my life involved Tony Searle planting an object in an
"abandoned cabin" and then sending us in one by one in the dark
to try and find it. I don't know if the cabin or Tony scared me
more.

Strange Meetings
October, 1990. I'm living in a flat in Warsaw with no
telephone. I receive a postcard which states, in its entirety,
"Suss, Dead in Berlin. Be there. Meadow." No show dates, no
venue, no place to meet, no return address or phone number to
contact him. I somehow figured out the show dates (a Friday and
Saturday) and took off by overnight train on Thursday night,
arriving in Berlin Friday morning. I met a Polish lady on the
train who lived in East Germany with her German husband and she
offered to put me up (and my friend, if I could find him!) for
US $15 a night. Soon after arriving at her flat, I decided I
better head to West Berlin and attempt to figure out where the
show is and how to get tickets. Within 5 minutes of stepping
off the train in the heart of West Berlin, who should come
bobbing by but Mr. Jacobs himself! Mind you, where we met
wasn't even remotely close to where the shows were. I had,
without a doubt, one of my most memorable weekends ever (that's
a story for another time!). The TimberGods must have wanted us
to meet! To them, I say thank you!

No Competition Here!
We're not in competition with anyone. This site is a TRIBUTE to
the Camp Timberlane of 1961-1986. If anything, it complements
the other site. This board allows adult alum to commiserate
without association to the current camp. This is a "fan" site.
There are subjects that are appropriate here that wouldn't be
for the current Camp Timberlane. There is no "fight" or
"competition." We contribute whatever we can to Mike's site,
and he does the same for us! If anything, I'm sure that a
current camp wouldn't want the association of that camper named
Tony.

A Timber Family Story
My kid and I are in a group called "Me and My Dad"...which is
sponsored by the Jewish Community Center. Once a month, we get
together with other father/sons for a night of fun activity.
Last night, we had a evening of games like balloon games, relay
races, etc.. The last activity was a tug-of-war where all the
kids were pulling against 2 fathers at a time. When it was my
turn to pull against twelve 6 year-old kids, my partner just
happened to be Timber-alum Bobby Weiss, who was there with his
kid. Without even a word, the Weiss/Marks team knew what to do.
Of course we were talking trash as we got a good grip on the
rope-- told the kids they didn't have a chance against the high
and mighty Timberlane Alums! Then the leader yelled-- 1
(everyone was digging in) 2 (you can see in the kids eyes--
they meant business) 3 PULL!! What does Weiss/Marks do???? WE
PULLED THE OLD DROP ROPE TRICK....the kids went flying over
each other-- Bobby and I grabbed the rope off the ground and
pull it to VICTORY!! Bobby and I did this without saying a word
to each other--like 2 brothers who knew exactly what to do
through past experiences. My belief is that I could have been
partnered with most of you guys and we would have done the
exact same thing-- Once you're a Timberlane family member,
those things are natural! Go Thailand...

Sleds + Thin Ice=No Fun
re: Callahan, circa early 90's: During one particular
'Sledfest' Tom came back to his cabin late at night after he
and his sled took a dip. I recall about five of us holding bic
lighters to his snowsuit because the zipper was frozen with
ice. Never seen a person shiver like that.
FYI: The town on Minocqua allows you, I think, only 24 hours to
have your sled salvaged from the lake bottom before they hit ya
with heavy fines for compromising the environment. So it's a
good idea to bring a one ton floating crane with you just in
case.

Peter - Jay Bavay was one of probably 4 or 5 brands of low end,
cheap, rock gut whiskey we used to tank up on. $4 would get
Perl and I stoked up for songwriting, Friday night campfires,

Some Explanations.
OK, I think everyone's been grossed out enough, Gazzoo so you
can remove the above pic (until next time). Leiky, the twin bed
is part of a 2-set-combo-setup that I inherited from my
grandparents when they passed into the Great Beyond in the Cold
Northland. My regular bed (a queen) was just too worn out from
all the bed-banging sessions I had thru the 90s. One gal broke
my headboard. Jesus always told me to "LOVE 'EM ALL" and I
still do "love 'em all." Perl, Joey, Bosco and probably a few
others have pics of those who I've loved fairly recently.
STUUUUART...nice to see you pop on here (God, where is Gary
Kranz at this very moment and what is he doing?) I'll tell you
one thing, I had nothin' to do with that scandal, but have
always treasured my personal relationship with former NFL
All-Pro Defensive Back Lionel Washington #48. He just won't
give me any of his money right now. You're goin' back a ways
here; I can't even recall you being in my class, but it was
most likely a history class of sorts, since that was my major
(I think).
