I have to confess: neither Kagen nor Stone ring any bells. Who are

Raskin is no Timber-historian
Raskin....Rocky Stone was a Timber-classic---the inventor or
many important things at Camp Timberlane (like Nature
Appreciation). One of the finest (if not the finest) frisbee
shooters ever. Rick Kagen just happens to be one of the best
waterskiers in the Timber-History. For Timber-history
ignorance....grab a broom and sweep the lodge

My most vivid memory of Rocky was him playing naked frisbee in
a rainstorm out on the athletic field...eh, let me rephrase
that, it isn't THAT vivid. Last we heard of Rocky, he had
become a Rabbi.

I recall being in that rainstorm playing frisbee with a very
naked Rocky that afternoon. I was fully clothed and fully
He was, however, wearing one thing, a harmonica holder around
his neck so he could play music while running after the 'bee. I
also recall some comments made from viewers in the Seemelater

Ricky Kagen, as I remember, was one of the first
Timber-footers. Back in the days when only 4 or 5 guys in camp
could barefoot ski.

This one's in Pud's wheelhouse--Terry Goldin, Andy Mintz (who
thought I went home with his Dunlop tennis racket and called
me, asking if I've seen it) and Lory Wiviott (who's Pud's 2nd

days in the very distant past).

Timber-history ignorance..Grab a broom Marksy!
OK Marksy, "Rick Kagen: One of the best waterskiers in
Timber-history." Give me a break! In my day, I was an above
average skier, but by no means, the best. Billy Fried, Pud,
Scott Rabinowitz, Mike Myerberg, myself, Rick Mossler, and even
Meadow would ski circles around Kagen.(well maybe not Pud).
Your turn to "grab a broom and sweep the lodge."

How could I leave out Bobbo?
One more thing Marksy, I just remembered that a few years ago,
we were up north for Callahan's wedding, and Bobbo Heilbrenner
asked me to pull him for a barefoot run. It was a holiday
weekend, and there were many boats on the lake. Bobbo did not
care about the rough water, and when I asked if he wanted to do
a step off, or a deep water start, he couldn't decide. A few
minutes later, he informed me he was going to do a deep water
backward barefoot start in choppy water. He backwards footed
for about 100 yards, and was ready to go again, this time he
wanted to perform a 180 turn, back to front. Do you still think
Kagen is the Man?

Donny Knows Kagen?
Just to clarify Donny, how do you know Rick Kagen? Didn't he
stop attending camp 3 years before you started?
Gazzoo, , firstname.lastname@example.org, [Msgid=45135]
Donny---are you taking Pud classes?
Donny.....either you were still a sperm and a egg or sucking on
your mother's breast when Rick Kagen went to Timberlane. And
what the hell do Bobbo Heilbronner and Rick Kagen have in
common (excpet the same hometown)?...I'm still trying to follow
that logic. The only thing I can figure is that Donny is still
a sperm and an egg with the left hemisphere of the brain
residing in the sperm, and the right hemisphere residing in the
egg. Can anyone help me here... maybe I'm missing something.
Donny, listen to your idol Uncle Bosco--Kagen could barefoot

I actually called Scooter up about 5 yrs. ago prior to one of
our many reunions in Memphis--in fact, I believe it was our
last Memphis, prior to New Orleans (the only one I missed out
of 9 yrs) and prior to Vegas. We all recall (or not recall)
seeing Jerry, Bob, Vince, Mickey, Bill and Phil at The Pyramid
(even Frank and Shelly Pierce took in a show--very cool heads).
You'll also recall (or not recall) my roommate at the Holiday
Inn-Midtown--none other than the infamous SCOOTER (he kissed me
many times for picking him up in St. Louis where he supposedly
was attending law school). Rick quized him on a number of
classic 1st year cases and he confirmed that Scooter was,
indeed, at least enrolled. One footnote--he only brought (1)
pair of underwear that was too tight for him and washed them
every morning and put them on wet--the only one I witnessed at
The Rendezvous who shook so much salt on his ribs that they
were white--God help the Scooter...

I will never forget the night that David Branovan, myself and a

No disrespect intended...but who the 'f' is Avedak?
Marksy, , firstname.lastname@example.org, [Msgid=45721]
Avedak or Jerry Lewis?
David Avadek was going to buy camp; and was up there for a
summer seeing if it was the right place. He lived in H's house
with his wife; his, I think, 2 sons attended camp. The youngest
(7) was a camper of mine, Ross's, and Willy's my first year as
a JC (1984). Avadek looked kind of like Jerry Lewis, and
sounded a bit like him too. I think H decided that he wasn't
capable of running camp, and chose not to sell, but I'm not
sure about this last point...
David Raskin, , Buy_Camp_Coach@com.com, [Msgid=45742]
Dr. Raskin's recall and description of the man in question is
very much along the lines of accurate. He actually did have a
bit of a Jerry Lewis twang (very nasally). I would compare him
to the likes of a power-hungry Joe Shneider, with the
intelligence of Paul Barker and with the fortitude and backbone
of both a Saul Sodapop & Grunt Lensky. His wife looked like
a squid, and never smiled once in (9) weeks. While Dr. Raskin
has taken his share of cruel and unusual punishment, he's right
on in his Avedek appraisal. BRAVISIMO.

I Will if She Will
I remember doing them, but not the setting. Can't remember if
they were done at campfires or where. There was always some
smart-ass who said "I Joe blow will if she will." It was a way
to reveal embarassing things about the people in your cabin to
everyone else in camp as I recall. Someone else out there like
Marks or JP will have a clearer memory of it I'm sure.
Jeff Mossler, , email@example.com, [Msgid=47676]
Watch out Where the Huskies Go
Cabin wills were done 2 ways...New-to-Timberlane counselors
went around and asked each kid what they wanted to will, and it
was never really funny or entertaining. But most counselors who
"came up thru the ranks" wrote the wills on behalf of their
cabin, and they were all read at the final campfire. This was
done for several reasons...1) you had to compose a final letter
for the parents (which nobody wanted to do), and for the sake
of getting done as quickly as possible, counselors wrote wills
out for their kids. 2) Many counselors took the opportunity to
take one last swipe at kids they didn't want to see come back.
Obviously, for Leiken, it didn't work. I do recall that one
year, Carl Bassewitz wrote to 50% of the parents that he
couldn't stand their kid, and that they should probably look
for a new camp. Harold was not amused....Carl didn't care.

cabin wills (sometimes done/sometimes not) were done at the end

the next summer (either at a campfire or some rainy time
activity), but as usual, somethimes they were never read! As
for parent letters, they were finished w/ the long mid-session
"session". All the staff was required to do at the end of the
session was list all the stuff for the achievement charts. I
