Leaping Into Track and Field
by Bill Barenholtz

Every year about 50 people sign up for track & field. One new thing this year is pole vaulting. Other events are the 50-, the 100- and the 220-yard dash, the distance run, the shot-put, the discus, the hurdles, the broad jump and the high jump.
Every year we have Track & Field Day. Any boy who wants to can compete. Track & field is run by Mark Pearlstein and Tony Heuser. The first and third periods are for track & field.
Last year Mark Pearlstein started the program with Mitch Roberg and Pete Stein. Now track is one of the most popular sports at Timberlane.
For those of you who are interested in rating yourselves with the average jumps or times in certain events, here are several official averages at Timberlane:
An average jump for a junior is 10 feet, 7 inches. The average jump for an intermediate is 12 feet, 3 inches. The average jump for senior is 15 feet, 1 inch.
