Skiiers to Enter Tourney
by Bill Fried

Camp Timberlane will try to improve it’s second place finish of last year and finish first this year in the upcoming Kawaga Ski Tournament.

The Kawaga Ski Tournament is skiing competition for camps and those what will be there this year will be Camp Agawak, Camp Fiesta, Chippewa Ranch Camp, Camp Red Arrow, Camp Jackpine, Camp Timberlane, Camp Nicolet and Camp Kawaga.

Camp Kawaga will host the tournament for the second year -- and this is also only the second year of the tourney’s existence.

Last year Timberlane took second in the tournament. Skiing were Bob Heilbronner, Mike Rolnick, Bill Fried, Robby Bond and Joel Brazy, and new entrants Larry Fuhrer and Gary Garten. Accompanying the campers will be Randy Wynn, head ski instructor, and skiier for the Min-Aqua Bat Waterski Club.
“I feel this year’s team is stronger overall than last year’s,” said Randy.”We should come out on top.”

Each camp will send our five skiiers to compete in three events. The events are trick-skiing, the skiiers will accumulate as many points as possible by doing as many tricks as they can do in two twenty-second passes. For slalom skiing, the skiiers go through a slalom course and accumulate points according to the speed of the boat and the number of buoys they round. Barefoot skiing involves getting points by the start the skiier does, the number of wakes he cuts, and whether or not he lifts a foot. The camp with the greatest number of points between the top three finishers wins the tournament.

The tournament is August 8, starting at 9:00 a.m. It lasts all day.
