Camp Hosts Successful Social
by Mike Schecter

Last week was one of the funniest things that could happen at a boy’s camp--a social. A social, in camp terms, is the meeting between a boys camp and a girls camp. In this case, Camp Timberlane danced at home with Camp Pinemier from nearby.

At the dance, most of the time the boys would choose who they wanted to dance with and they go to the center of the lodge and dance.

There were many types of dances. Some would be slow, like Elton John’s “Daniel,” when partners held hand in hand. Other dances like the Beach Boys’ “Barbara Ann” would be very fast. For this type of dance you made up your own original dance.

Almost everybody danced. Harold Hiken said it was the most successful social that ever took place at Timberlane.

The dance took place in the Timberlane lodge. Pinemier arrived here by bus.

The evening consisted of about 25 songs, with a break with drink and cookies half-way through.

Age groups were from around 11 years old to 15 years old. Many counselors danced too. The three youngest Timberlane cabins did not participate in the social. Otherwise everyone enjoyed the dance. Duration of the social was about an hour and forty-five minutes, in other words, from 7:30-9:15. This social was one of the two this session at Camp Timberlane. The girls camp for the next session has not yet been determined.
