Timberlane Archery
Letting the Arrows Fly
by Ronnie Richker

Every day Archery is held second, third and fourth periods. The targets are fifteen and twenty feet away.

In archery, several rules are very important. First, never go to the shack or go out and get your arrows when someone is still shooting. Also, if your fingers start to hurt, you can use a finger-guard or an arm-guard.

Jim Goldstein, Ivan Cole and Barry Schulman direct the Archery classes.

Awards are a big part of Archery, too. If you get a score of 80 ponts or over, you get two awards on your fifteen yard target. Then you try for 100 points at that distance. If you hit the target and the arrow bounces off, then you get three points, but if the arrow hits the wood and bounces off, you get no points.

It usually takes about two days for a beginner to get two awards, but it is very hard to get your two awards and it is even harder to get your 100 point awards.

Jeff Schwartz, David Stern, Bruce Fleishman, Jonny Rauch, Mike Feld, Steve Rice and Mike Levine recently passed Archery awards.

One final thought -- "when you put the arrow on the boy, the odd feather should be facing the sky".
