Harmonicas Beat Camp Blues
by Scott Shovers

Harmonicas are big this year at camp. Fred Bierman started the craze. He has been playing since he was a P.A. here and that was 4 1/2 years ago. Rocky Stone and Greg Brenner have just started playing this year.

At mealtime, sometimes Fred used the microphone and plays the theme “Hi--oh Silver” and other favorites. At campfires scometimes Rocky and Fred play harmonicas while Doug Heller and Scott Benzuly play guitars. It is like the first miniature Camp Timberlane band. At sign-up for activities Fred or Rocky usually plays their harmonicas.

People play harmonicas for fun. It gives a person something to do. Try and learn new songs, make up songs, but the main thing is to have fun.

You can’t learn how to play in one day. This reporter is trying to play. Alot of people in camp are learning. It took Fred a few weeks to play decently. It’s hard work. You may not think so, but it is.

When a person just gets a harmonica and tries to play and it doesn’t sound too good, other people get mad at the person. But otherwise how is a person going to learn without mistakes?
